About MSTeP

About the Project

Modeling and simulation of complex technical problems: effective numerical algorithms and parallel implementation using new information technologies is a project of the Program of the Information Society of the Thematic Program II of the National Research Program of the Czech Republic Project number 1ET400300415. The project has started on July 1st, 2004 and is planned for 4.5 years.

Keywords

computer modeling and simulation; design, analysis and implementation of algorithms; numerical linear algebra; parallel algorithms; rock mechanics; flow in porous rocks; metal forming; reliability of complex systems; biomechanics; design of machines

Aim of the Project

The project aims at development of methods of computational mathematics and computer science for computer modeling and simulation using parallel computing and optimized computer implementations. The project will result in new (mainly iterative) algorithms of numerical linear algebra characterized by high effectiveness, parallel scalability and good robustness. They will be implemented on large distributed and multiprocessor systems, and applied in particular to the solution of problems arising from
  • mechanics of underground constructions and assessment of mining technologies as well as problems of biomechanics,
  • flow and transport of contaminants in porous rocks including chemical reactions,
  • metal forming and design of machine components,
  • evaluation of reliability of complex systems,
  • analysis of scattering of electromagnetic field on periodic structures.
The project should at the same time form a team able to solve strategic problems and systematically prepare young researchers.
