Practical Information (sorry for the Prague bias!)
- The Czech Mobility Centre can help
scientists with some practical problems of moving to the Czech Republic.

- How to transfer money from/to abroad (not exhaustive, just my own experience, please add yours!)
- Do not transfer money directly from/to your Czech bank account, banks offer very
bad exchange rates, and you have to pay quite high fees!
- Transferring money using ATM's (bankomat) usually gives you good exchange rates, and due
to a EU-regulation you will have to pay the same fees in the whole European Union. This can
be high (e.g., for bank accounts in Germany, when retrieving money from an ATM not belonging
to the same bank as the account), but it can also be low (e.g., to my knowledge, no fees for bank
accounts in Austria, even if you are withdrawing from ATMs not belonging to your
bank). To be sure, ask your bank.
- There are companies specialized in offering good rates when converting large amounts of money between different
currencies, usually they also offer the combination with an international transfer. Some of
these are listed here
- For car drivers: Attention: the streets in Prague are cleaned from time to time, cars that
are not removed by their drivers are towed away (appr. cost: 1300 CZK + 200 CZK for each day).
Announcements: Write the street name into the last field
here, and press "Najít"
